The California Department of Justice is hiring a Crime Analyst III (CA III) in the Non-Criminal Justice Access Oversight Section (NCJAOS). The CA III serves as the program's liaison to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Office of the General Counsel, Criminal Justice Information Law Unit (CJILU).

Working independently or with other staff, the CA III will:
review new requests from noncriminal justice agencies requesting access to federal criminal history record information
research statutes to identify requisite authorizing statute(s) and reasons for fingerprinting
review legislative bills that may impact the program
assist in the preparation of Information Bulletins and training materials

Desired Qualifications:
ability to reviews, analyzes, interprets, and applies laws, statutes, and rules
possess knowledge of California Penal Codes and the criminal justice system
excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to articulate information in a clear, concise, and professional manner
excellent research and analytical skills with experience in providing reports and data analysis
proficiency in the use of various computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications and willingness to learn new technological tools and to incorporate them in daily tasks

Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience inside California state civil service performing duties of a class with a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Crime Analyst II
-or-
Three years of increasingly responsible experience obtaining, analyzing, and/or disseminating criminal justice information, with at least one year equivalent in responsibility to that of a Crime Analyst II.
