Job Overview Responsible for tracking plant performance parameters (heat rate, forced outage rates, etc.), coordinating appropriate testing to determine root cause of problems, providing system or equipment performance testing, capital project management, and recommending appropriate and cost-effective solutions to correct problems and/or improve efficiency. This position will also be responsible for carrying out special projects associated with the operation, maintenance, or retrofit of the existing assets and be involved in future expansion projects. Will assist in the planning for work orders through CMMS, as well as assist in long-term planning for upcoming outages. Will coordinate contractor activities and support overall outage work. May assist and/or perform day to day plant maintenance.Job Responsibilities * Provide inspections and support to production to keep the units running at their maximum reliability and performance levels while maintaining personnel safety, asset safety and regulatory compliance. * Perform troubleshooting and plant maintenance. * Make recommendations on reducing operational and maintenance expenses by improving system design, modifying system practices, recommending alternate equipment designs, etc. * Monitor unit efficiency by identification and troubleshooting operational deviations from expected values that would impact unit performance. Review unit operating data including fuel consumption and generation. * Provide equipment and system condition assessments. * Participate in the plant HSE programs to ensure compliance with all required reporting requirements to corporate departments and governmental agencies. * Know and understand the plant O&M budget. Submit monthly spending forecasts and monitor O&M expenditures to ensure operating costs stay within established budgets. * Understands the design features of the facility. * Assist with long range planning for outage work and capital improvement projects. * Assist with training and developmental plans for OMTs. * Perform as a Project Manager of capital projects by coordinating input from the asset team, developing scope and cost of work. Preparation of all necessary project documents and cost justifications, work with procurement department for bid preparation, prepare project schedules with input from construction, support installation and testing of the project and write a project completion report addressing cost variances. * Perform and/or coordinate design modifications. This includes design, specification writing, engineering, system installation and testing to ensure project success. Assist with procurement and construction as needed to coordinate and successfully accomplish this effort. * Supervise/coordinate NDE services as needed. Maintain database of all NDE data. * Coordinate and support, as needed, the High Energy Piping program. * Provide support for the plant water chemistry control program. * Stay abreast of developments in the power industry and recommend modifications or practices that could improve safety, performance, availability and reliability. * Perform other collateral duties and responsibilities as assigned. * Review, share, evaluate and discuss the power plant performance with the EthosEnergy Shared Performance Engineer that is assigned to serve the SMUD portfolio of sites.Required Skills / Knowledge * Working knowledge of Power Plant operations and safety. * Excellent quantitative skills. * Technical ability with computer systems - proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Mainsaver, and computerized LOTO program. * Proven planning and organizational skills. * Ability to adapt to changing requirements and quickly bring assignments to completion. * Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and to identify problems and solutions. * Uses discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information. * Displays good judgment; willingness to take responsibility and initiative to make decisions within scope of responsibility. * Team player able to work with all levels of the organization.Experience * Four to six years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and education. * Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.Education Requirements * High School diploma or equivalent required. * Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred. * Bachelor's Degree a plus.Location Herald, CA, USA
