ABOUT THE JOB

Under direct supervision of the Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and designated supervisors, The Staff Counselor uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Ability to function in an environment controlled by HIPAA, FERPA, CMIA, CANRA, and other regulations. Functions as a team player in support of colleagues and departmental needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides counseling, clinical consultation and / or psychotherapy to clients. Develops and communicates treatment plans, provides crisis intervention / management and emergency services as required.

2. Assesses clients and determines appropriate therapeutic approach in consultation with other behavioral health professionals as appropriate.

3. Arranges for therapeutic interventions for clients with serious disturbance problems.

4. Leads educational workshops, support groups and / or retreats for center.

5. Participates in, or leads, training sessions and workshops to enhance treatment skills.

6. May lead paraprofessionals in performance of clinical duties.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in related area and 3 years of directly related experience, or equivalent experience/training.

Valid license in the state of California as a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), or licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC).

Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.

Thorough knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to I WPO patients' rights.

Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic approach and modify as necessary.

Ability to develop and present educational programs and or workshops.

Highly effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with a diverse client group.

Highly effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of business software and specialized applications / systems used in behavioral health settings.

Adherence to CANRA guidelines as a mandated reporter.

Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Ability to establish rapport with others as a requisite for healthy and therapeutic relationships.

Ability to deal effectively with a high level of stress, emotionality and ambiguity.

Ability to effectively weigh and evaluate personal needs, student-client needs, and the aims and policies of the agency, and to respond to and negotiate these competing needs.

Ability to be both consistent and flexible, as circumstances warrant.

Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation, and relationships with others.
