Position Summary

The incumbent reports to the EdD Program Director, and to the Dean of COE, and is responsible for the implementation of the EdD and College's program marketing plans such as advertising and promotional materials for faculty scholarship and program events. Incumbent works with the Director and Dean to disseminate events, news and scholarship information on social media and other communications media. Incumbent is directly involved in developing, writing and/or editing a variety of print or electronically-based communication materials, as well as coordinating related program affairs, community relations and marketing activities. This position works closely with the analyst in the Doctorate program, staff in the College Dean's office, and University marketing and communications staff to coordinate various events to showcase the programs, its activities, and accomplishments, often in collaboration with them. Incumbent maintains positive and professional relationships with a diverse population of colleagues, administrators, faculty, staff, students and the community.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $3761 - $5,303 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3761 - $6803 per month

Department Information

The Sacramento State Ed.D. program trains the leaders of tomorrow to champion change in the field of Education. The program is a partnership between the Educational Leadership and Public Policy departments-training leaders to address the urgent need for well-prepared individuals to assume key leadership positions in California's schools and community colleges.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to the first level within this classification requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of standard communication, social and mass media, marketing techniques and strategies.
  • Working knowledge of market research techniques and methods; ability to apply market research to identify communication needs and target audiences.
  • Ability to effectively use web-based communication tools (i.e. social media) to achieve communication goals.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, designing and completing electronic and print media, including publications and other marketing and communications materials.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Monday.com, desktop publishing, photo editing, web page development, as well as online calendaring and email.
  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
  • Related professional or technical experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate deliverables.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive working relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Some event planning and coordination skills to organize large events.
    Work Schedule Requirements:
  • Ability to occasionally adjust working hours to meet special jobs and/or to perform work as needed in evenings and weekends

    Preferred Qualifications

    12. Experience working in a college or university setting

    13. Knowledge of CSU and campus policies and procedures

    14. Experience in design and production of printed and online promotional materials

    15. Event planning experience

    16. Familiarity using editing applications including Adobe Acrobat Professional, InDesign, and Photoshop.

    17. Experience with video (filming, editing and captioning using various editing programs including Apple iMovie, Microsoft Windows Movie Maker).

    18. Ability to shoot and process media-quality photos for web and print.

    19. Proficient in the use of new media, and new social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.)

    20. Two or more years of experience in communications and/or marketing

    21. Experience supervising students employees
