manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric
system in the nation. These renewable electric generation
resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain
ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains
include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes,
135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and
142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating
licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC).Position SummaryResponsibilities for this position include
ensuring the availability, integrity, and reliability of assigned
SCADA system work. Provides application solutions, development,
advice, and assistance to internal clients, to facilitate the
design, develop, integrate, and maintain SCADA / Process Control
systems. Conducts analysis, programming, troubleshooting,
recommending solutions, develops standards and implementing fixes
associated with SCADA systems and applications. The SCADA
specialist also conducts systems modeling, migration, and
administration support. Prepares and reviews design
documentation.This position location is flexible within PG&E
Service Territory.PG&E is providing the salary range that the
company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at
the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to
the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual
will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to,
specific skills, education, licenses or certifications,
experience,market value, geographic location, and internal
equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this
rolewill be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range,
the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese
factors.A reasonable salary range is:Bay Area Minimum: $109,000Bay
Area Maximum: $175,000&/ORCalifornia Minimum:
$104,000California Maximum: $166,000Job Responsibilities
- SCADA Operational Consultant and Support:* Provide support and
advice for the SCADA system and other Automation applications.*
Responsible for communication with end-users and vendors for SCADA
software enhancements and problem identification and resolution.*
Provide input for business analysis of proposed changes to the
SCADA hardware, applications and associated interfaces.* Test,
install and maintain SCADA control systems and services within
Power Generation. These are associated with Hydro, Solar, Combined
Cycle and Fuel Cell Generation,.* Provides guidance, training and
coordination for Project Engineering, System Automation and IT
personnel, as well as Operation & Maintenance for the development
and implementation of SCADA and automation projects.* Available to
work 24 x 7 for operational support of SCADA / Automation systems
if needed.* Review and comment on any document needed to implement
new RTU and other related automation installations.* Work with
business clients to align technical recommendations with business
objectives by understanding the strategies and objectives of
supported business units.* Work closely with IT and O&M
technicians to install and test SCADA systems.* Work closely with
operations to monitor existing equipment, real time data and
control and monitor performance metrics.* Use established policies
and procedures to support all users of SCADA data and control.*
Update policies and standards as needed and assigned.Data/Control
Monitoring/Sharing and Management:* Monitor and evaluate data and
control for operations and engineering.* Assist in analyzing,
diagnosing and resolving problems associated with all SCADA
systems.Engineering Support:* Provides data as needed for planning
and System Automation on new equipment installations.* Provide
input and pre-production testing for any new field equipment or
modifications to existing equipment.Vendor Support:* Support
development of positive relationship with SCADA vendor, end-user,
and other stakeholders.* Assists engineering and design by
providing testing and analyzing new equipment.* Assists technicians
and analysts, as appropriate, for new designs and protocol testing
in a lab environment.* Works directly with Vendors to test and
improve SCADA devices and applications.Projects:* Provide on-site
or remote support as needed.* Provide on-site testing of new SCADA
equipment and database.Training:*Assist the Learning Services to
create and maintain training curriculum. As required, conduct
internal classes and work with vendors on new training.Compliance
and Process Improvement:* Ensuring compliance with regulatory
requirements and standards.* Use of best practices and benchmarks
to achieve efficient and effective services.* Apply best practices
as appropriate and continued improvement in core
competencies.General* Resolves problems of limited scope within
SCADA procedural guidelines. Seeks assistance from the supervisor
or more senior employees on unusual or more difficult problems.
Assignments typically require standard solutions and limited
creative approaches.* The incumbent independently plans SCADA work
to meet assigned specific objectives; progress is reviewed
periodically for technical accuracy and adequacy in process and
upon completion.QualificationsMinimum:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline
or equivalent experience
- Experience with SCADA-Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition,
or related, 5 yearsDesired:
Current and active California PE
license desired (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Control Systems
Engineering, preferred), Calif EIT if PE has not been
obtained.Power Generation control system applicationsGraphical user
interface (GUI) design skillsKnowledge of real time control
networking and SCADA protocolsKnowledge of telecommunications
systemsExperience developing SCADA and I&C standards and
proceduresAbility to be self-managing and to enjoy the challenges
of problem solving.Good written and verbal communication skills and
an ability to develop positive relationships with vendors and
clientsOthers with 14 years of Control Systems Technical experience
and meeting the knowledge and experience requirements may also be
considered in place of the engineering BS degree.Intermediate to
moderation knowledge of operating systems and/or network
administrationExperience working with SCADA , PLCs and process
distributed control systems DCS. Platform knowledge with 2 of the
following 5 platforms is required (Allen Bradley PLC, SCADAPack32,
Campbell Scientific Controllers, GE D20 family of RTU, or Eaton
Cooper SMP family of RTU).Able to establish and document operations
procedures in Control Description of Operations or Functional
Requirements DescriptionsExperience with writing and performing
commissioning and start up on advanced control systems.Knowledge of
I&C (Instrument and Controls), PID loop programming and tuning,
sensor selection applied to Hydro System Powerhouse equipment,
water conveyance systems and Solar facilities.Ability to use MS
Office including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and other
