Position: -Labor ProfessionalEmployment Date: -Approximate Start Date - December 2022**Please Note** Experience in union organizing and representation is required.Salary Range: -$6,192 - $7,000 monthly, with mileage reimbursement for travel within the district as required. Starting salaries are typically at the first step on our salary range. Consideration may be given for exceptional qualifications and experience.Location: -Sacramento CaliforniaDeadline to Apply: -First Review, December 9, 2022The Los Rios Classified Employees Association (LRCEA) -Labor Professional -trains and develops members. The Labor Professional represents or assists with representational matters for members.The LRCEA is a union representing the Classified Professionals employed by the Los Rios Community College District. -We are an independent union comprised of volunteers who focus on negotiating wages, benefits, and working conditions.ResponsibilitiesActing as an independent agent for LRCEA, this position is responsible for assisting with developing worksite leadership structures; assists union leadership with handling grievances, arbitrations, and disciplinary appeals; recruiting/training new members; and assisting with negotiating union contracts. -Responsible for preparing work plans, calendars, files, reports, and other records. May be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends; remote or alternate work scheduling available per agreement.Examples of Duties

  • Representation: -Recruits and trains members. -Accountable for working with union leadership and helping recruit new members to participate in union activities. Regular one-on-one contact with members will be required.
  • Leadership Development: -Develop and maintain effective worksite leadership structures through the recruitment, training, and support of site representatives and other union leaders. Help design and build leadership structures.
  • Communication: -Maintain regular and effective communication with members through personal visits, flyers, newsletters, phone calls, mailings, and meetings. Respond to telephone messages in a timely manner.
  • Representation: -Interpret collective bargaining agreements and other relevant laws, codes, regulations, policies, and practices and assist union members in understanding their rights. Provide effective and prepared advocacy, handle and assist with grievances, appeals, requests for hearings, and other formal personnel matters on behalf of union members. Assist union members in achieving informal resolutions of work-related problems.
  • Collective Bargaining: -Assist as advisor/negotiator for LRCEA. Assist with conducting bargaining surveys, salary surveys, and other research activities to strengthen the negotiating position of LRCEA.
  • Issue Campaigns: -Participate in the development and implementation of effective industry strategies and coordinated activities to raise standards. Identify significant worksite and/or departmental issues and develop strategies and tactics to effectively address them, that may include but not limited to petitions, group grievances, work actions, media events, and legal actions.Ability To

        • Have a California driver's license, insurance and carThe ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:
          • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred)
          • LRCEA seeks a Labor Professional who is representative of our union and reflects our members' interests and concerns.
          • Experience in union organizing and representation is required.
          • Work experience relevant to organizing, recruiting and training new members
          • Experience in negotiating contracts is highly desirable, but not required
          • Experience with negotiations, advocacy or dispute resolution is desirable
          • Experience in education is highly desired, experience in governmental representation would be acceptable
          • Related experience will be given consideration as will union rank-and-file experience. A combination of education, experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities will be considered.Salary, Fringe BenefitsThe salary range for the LRCEA Labor Professional is $6,192 - $7,000 monthly, with mileage reimbursement for travel within the district as required. Starting salaries are typically at the first step on our salary range. Consideration may be given for exceptional qualifications and experience.
