Summary of the Position:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assists certificated teacher(s) in the instruction of students. Be responsible for providing linguistic support for IHS students. Provides oral and written translations from the English language to and from a designated language and from and to the English language. Prepares and distributes written translations for publications, forms, announcements, and instructions, per the direction of teaching staff and administrators. Performs clerical and instructional support duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
--- Translates spoken language when directed by the instructor. Provides consecutive or simultaneous translation between languages as directed, per the instructor's discretion
--- Assists the instructor in the implementation of lesson plans by providing positive learning experiences for students
--- Provides subject matter tutoring in areas such as but not limited to English Proficiency, Basic Skills, and classroom subject matter
--- Assists the instructor in maintaining classroom order by observing the activities of the students and maintaining order in or out of the classroom setting
--- Observes and monitors behavior of students within approved procedures and reports any concerns to the instructor
--- Responds to each student's individual needs
--- Assists the instructor with attendance recording
--- Reports to the instructor any signs of illness or distress observed in students
--- Aids in dealing with difficult situations as appropriate
--- Sets up and arranges supplies and equipment in the classroom as directed
--- Performs clerical duties such as, but not limited to preparation of correspondence, teaching aids, labels, charts, bulletin boards, displays, etc.
--- Assists the instructor with grading and recording assignments as needed
--- Assists the instructor with student files and records in accordance with the school and state policies to help ensure required documentation and privacy of the students
--- When necessary, handles the transportation of files following proper policy
expectations set forth by the school for the transport and delivery of student files
--- Assists the instructor in setting up schedules and distributing/collecting materials, information, and announcements
--- Monitors students, classroom, and training activities to provide a safe learning environment
--- Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment
--- Assists the instructor in administering and proctoring tests according to established guidelines
--- Participates in meetings, conferences, and in-service training programs to receive and share updated information and improve skills/knowledge
--- Gives additional time and support to students having difficulty with learning materials
--- Accompanies the instructor and students on field trips, community based training, travel, and vocational trainings
--- Operates computers to assist students with learning exercises; demonstrates proper operation of desktops and laptops
--- Perform related duties as assigned

Education and Training:
--- High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
--- Ability to pass an exam with a 70% or better to determine English reading/writing/comprehension is required
Experience/Minimum Qualifications:
--- The ability to communicate with a diverse group of people on a daily basis
--- Possession of a valid California driver's license

Physical Requirements:
--- Mobility: frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting at desk and in meetings for long periods of time; occasionally reaching and twisting to reach equipment surrounding desk; occasional walking, standing, bending, stooping, and squatting; occasional pushing, pulling or lifting up to twenty (25) pounds
--- Vision: constant use of overall vision; frequent computer use; occasional color and depth vision
--- Dexterity: frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing and typing; frequent grasping, holding and reaching; frequent operation of office equipment, computers and clerical supplies
--- Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person and on the phone
--- Emotional/Psychological: frequent public and/or coworker contact; ability to remain calm in emergency situations; occasionally works alone
--- Driving: ability to use fine and gross motor coordination for driving
Typical Working Conditions:
--- Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment. Occasional work is performed outside in various types of weather
--- Potential exposure to noise, moisture, dust, vibrations, heat and cold
--- Designated positions may require travel to and from off-site locations throughout the District
