Commission programs create opportunities for success through groundbreaking programs focused on workforce training, strawberry production research, and nutrition research.Through science-based information and education, we deliver the good news about sustainable farming practices that benefit the health of people, farms, and communities.The California Strawberry Commission is seeking the position of Regulatory Affairs Specialist.The Regulatory Affairs Specialist is a full-time position with the task of enabling the industry to be constructively engaged in the regulatory issues of significance at the local, state, national and international levels.This position requires the ability to perform essential in-person activities, with the appropriate safeguards, including a vaccination(s) in accordance with Title VI, the ADA, EEOC guidance and FEHAResponsibilities1) Effectively identify and explain current and emerging regulatory, procedures, and policy issues that could, positively or negatively impact the viability of production, shipping, and processing of California's strawberry industry.2) Research and recommend policy positions to the Public Policy Committee and theBoard.3) Develop data needed to support regulatory and policy positions.4) Ensure adequate compliance with regulations.5) Provide correct and accurate technical review of data or reports.6) Analyze and evaluate laws and regulations that apply to the process of determining the impact on production.7) Participate at regulatory issue related meetings, hearings, conference calls and events as needed.8) Examine, identify, and interpret relevant regulatory guidelines.9) Coordinate meetings, industry tours, communication, and follow-up for the PublicPolicy Committee and or with policymakers.10) Ascertain the maintenance of appropriate records and reference materials for supporting policy positions.11) Assist with the development of strategies and tactics to accomplish supportive policy positions.12) Write timely regulatory updates, newsletter articles, blogs, etc.13) Prepare issue papers, comment letters, and provide public testimony as needed.14) Develop and maintain communication with key personnel in (federal and state) environmental, agricultural, and other related government regulatory agencies regarding compliance requirements, potential regulatory pathways, clarifications, pre- submission strategies, and follow-up.15) Coordinate efforts that are related to the preparation of regulatory documents or submissions.16) Compile and oversee the maintenance of regulatory documentation databases or systems.17) Identify potential state and federal funding sources that support California Strawberry production.18) Prepare and present to community leaders, stakeholders and policymakers onCalifornia Strawberry issues as needed.19) Develop, maintain, and update regulatory industry programs and plans as needed.ReportingThe Regulatory Affairs Analyst reports to the VP of Public Policy. There will be close cross- departmental coordination and frequent communication with the VP of Public Policy andPresident of the Commission. The position will be based in Sacramento with regular visits to the primary office located in Watsonville and other production districts throughout California.Travel will also be required to Washington D.C. or other areas needed that may impact industry issues.Professional Experience/Qualifications The ideal candidate will have experience in both state and federal legislative and or regulatory policy issues. A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Biological Sciences,Toxicology, or Political Science is preferred but not a requirement Good time management skills and must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where timelines and protocols are met Excellent organizational and project management skills to coordinate projects and activities Proficiency and familiarity with databases or other information management tools Well-developed analytical skills and detail oriented Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skillsCompensationA competitive compensation package will be offered to the qualified candidate.RESUME SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BYSeptember 30, 2022_The California Strawberry Commission is an equal opportunity employer.
