Job Description:
Overview:
Since 1925 Dignity Health Mercy General Hospital has been providing
a wide range of health social and support services with special
advocacy for the poor and underserved. The 419-bed facility
includes the nationally recognized Dignity Health Heart & Vascular
Institute and The Joint Commission-certified Stroke Programs. Mercy
General Hospital also houses the first CARF- (Commission on
Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited Acute
Rehabilitation Unit in the region. Mercy General Hospital's Alex G.
Spanos Heart & Vascular Center is a state-of-art four story
addition that provides all cardiac services under one roof: Cardiac
Rehabilitation Cardiac Support Unit and Cardiopulmonary Services.
It also includes: 71 private family-friendly patient rooms expanded
21-bed cardiac ambulatory procedure area and a highly advanced
20-bed cardiac surgery ICU. Additionally Mercy General Hospital has
achieved Level 4 Epilepsy Center designation.
Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for the performance of complex cardiac
diagnostic procedures, and all procedures required by the EKG
Technician. Demonstrates competency in patient care for neonate,
pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. -1.1 Explains procedure
before beginning each study, prepping patient, calibrating
equipment, and entering patient data with an accuracy rate of 95%
to 98%.1.2 Records appropriate cardiac structure on tape and hard
copy to determine overall function of the heart with less than 2%
omission rate.1.3 Disposition of studies by patient status and age
of order. Completes study within scheduled shift unless cleared by
the supervisor, noting completion on patient's chart 95% to 98% of
the time.1.4 Prepares test results for physician's interpretation
providing all pertinent patient data, accurately recording
measurements on data sheet. Copies and disperses study to
appropriate areas. Initiates an appropriate charge for patient's
account by the end of shift 95% to 98% of the time.1.5 Maintains
proper care of equipment, including cleaning and restocking, so
that no more than 1 to 2 outages of supplies are noted per month.
Notifies company of any equipment failures immediately to ensure
timely repair with notification to supervisor.1.6 Assists with
procedures and various duties of EKG technician between scheduled
tests. See Standard III of the EKG Technician performance
appraisal.
Qualifications:
REQUIRES:Experience in echocardiographic and Doppler technology or
the ability to exhibit the special skills listed.2 YEARS College
education with courses in physiology and anatomy.ARDMS
certification.Knowledge of: -EKG procedures and equipment -basic
cardiac and human body anatomy and physiology -basic interpretation
of cardiac arrhythmias -cardiopulmonary resuscitation -general
filing procedures -typing and office skills -electrical safety
standards -proper phone techniques aseptic techniques. Ability to:
-establish and maintain a good working relationship with a wide
variety of hospital personnel -act courteously and with tact in
dealing with patients, visitors and the public -explain procedures
to patients -maintain patient confidentiality -follow established
procedures -work effectively under stress and adjust priorities as
circumstances require -organize work assignments, maintaining
accurate and complete records -maintain a high degree of accuracy
regarding all details -calm and reassure distressed patients -work
with minimal supervision -respond effectively in emergency
situations -read and comprehend technical instructions -effective
oral and written communications skills
