The Cosumnes Community Services District is seeking to hire qualified individuals for the position of Golf Professional at the Emerald Lakes Golf Course. Under general supervision, the golf professional plans, organizes, and supervises the golf shop operations, special events, private and group lessons, leagues and clubs for the golf course. The golf course is open as early as 5 am and closes as late as 10 pm. The golf course is open year round and candidates must be willing to work holidays, weekends, and evenings. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Note: The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of a specific statement on duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all the duties listed. Employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level as required. Develops, plans, promotes, implements, schedules and evaluates pro shop operations, special events, private and group lessons, leagues and clubs at golf course;Assigns, schedules, and reviews the work of lower level workers; ensures department standards for safety, facility and golf course and golf shop operations are met;Provides courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, CSD personnel and the public; ensures staff provides a high degree of service to both internal and external customers;Acts as a liaison to the public; answers questions and handles customer complaints; directs lower level workers in on-site communication with parents, participants and the public; discusses program concerns and participation issues; provides solutions when appropriate;Enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by CSD policies;Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with Department safety standards and the CSD Injury and Illness Prevention Program;Purchases supplies in accordance with District purchasing policies; assists manager with approval and processing of bills and payments for services, materials and supplies;Completes and maintains reports and forms as necessary;Recommends and provides feedback to supervisory staff regarding hiring, training, evaluation, discipline and salary of lower level workers;Required to work a variety of shifts including, but not limited to weekends, holidays and after hour emergency calls;Assists in creating and developing marketing strategies;Assists Golf Course Manager in preparing budget, daily deposits and timesheets; may collect and review timesheets of lower level workers;May plan and conduct staff meetings and participate in program planning and preparation;May recruit, select, train, schedule and provide day to day lead direction to volunteers of the golf course.QUALIFICATIONS:Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considering qualifying at the sole discretion of the District .A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent; college or technical school training in golf course operations may be substituted for the non-supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience as a Golf Instructor including experience in golf course operations with one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity. Special Requirements: Must possess, or be in the process of obtaining, a PGA/LPGA license or an apprentice PGA/LPGA license as a golf professional and maintain it throughout employment; Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first sixty (60) days of employment; certification must be maintained through employment; Must possess a valid California class "C" driver's license, with a satisfactory driving record as determined by the District and maintain it throughout employment;Must be a certified Level 3 - 1st tee coach.Knowledge of: The game of golf and techniques on how to play; techniques and skills required to plan and instructing private and group golf lessons;Basic methods, terminology, principals, techniques, and materials used in the operations of a golf course and golf shop;Developing and coordinating effective marketing programs and special events designed to showcase the golf course and provide the public with an ongoing source of community activities;Safety practices and procedures related to golf course and golf shop operations, safe and effective use of hand and power tools;Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in customer service, financial accounting and recordkeeping such as daily transaction entry, fee checks, and reviewing daily revenue reports and preparing bank deposits;Principles and techniques of supervision, training, discipline, and performance evaluation;Computer database programs, desktop publishing and word processing in currently used programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel;Basic operation of automated office machines including cash register, calculator, computer, keyboard, printers and other peripherals, copier, and fax machine;Basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculation of decimals, ratios, percentages and fractions. Ability to: Lead the work of others including the assigning, reviewing, planning and coordination of work; providing clear instruction and guidance on a day to day basis;Analyze and use independent judgment in golf course and golf shop operation practices and functions;Apply principle of rational systems such as operating cash register and handling cash;Provide instruction and guidance to staff, contract instructors and participants;Comprehend and prepare reports and forms such as accident reports, incident reports, inventory lists, e-mail and calendars using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;Proficiently operate computer programs such as those in the Microsoft Office Suite;Comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents such as, but not limited to, time sheets, blue prints, safety manuals, instruction manuals, personnel handbook, policies and procedures;Effectively and tactfully communicate both orally and in writing with facility users, independent contractors, vendors, volunteers, CSD personnel and the public.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:THE PROCESS: Application/Supplemental Questionnaire Review- Applications will be reviewed for possession of minimum qualifications and evaluated according to the essential functions of the job, and other needs of the position. First Oral Panel Interview- The most qualified candidates from the review may be invited to participate in an Oral Panel Interview tentatively scheduled for December 10, 2019. Second Oral Panel Interview- The most qualified candidates from the First Panel Interview may be invited to participate in the second Oral Panel Interview. Conditional Offer Procedures- Candidates selected from the process may receive a conditional offer of employment contingent upon the successful completion of the following:BACKGROUND CHECK: A State of California, Department of Justice criminal background check;DRIVING RECORD: A State of California, DMV driving record printout will be required.Appointment Procedures- Upon successful completion of the background check, candidates must complete the following before final appointment:MEDICAL: A clear tuberculosis screening and physical will be required.Probationary Period: A probationary period of one (1) year is the final phase of the selection process. New members in CalPERS will receive a retirement formula of 2% at 62.
