Title: Backend Java Software Engineer III

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (onsite 2 days a week: Thursday, Monday)
Term: Starting at 10 months+ contract with possible extensions

• Designs and develops software applications, including coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the development process.

  • The candidate will spend approximately 70% of their time designing and coding, with 30% collaboration.
    
  • Work on new code, existing code, and technical enhancements, such as migration from SQL to PostgreSQL.
    
    Responsibilities:
    
    • 
      
    • Gathering functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and planning projects and tests.
      
    • Designing and developing web applications, software prototypes, or proofs of concept (POCs).
      
    • Acting in a technical leadership role: mentoring junior engineers and applying expertise to challenging programming and design problems.
      
    • Spending roughly 70-85% of time on hands-on coding.
      
    • Resolving defects/bugs during QA testing, pre-production, production, and post-release patches.
      
    • Working cross-functionally with various teams to drive results.
      
    • Contributing to project design and architecture.
      
      Qualifications:
      
      • 
        
      • 5+ years experience developing high traffic, scalable backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, REST, GraphQL, MySQL/PostgreSQL/Oracle, AWS, DynamoDB, Kafka.
        
      • BS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experience.
        
      • Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot, understanding large codebases.
        
      • Experience with the full SDLC.
        
      • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise web services with REST and GraphQL.
        
      • Passion for engineering and operational excellence.
        
      • Excellent communication skills for explaining complex technical issues.
        
      • Strong understanding of software design and architecture.
        
      • Experience with unit testing and TDD.
        
        Preferred Experience:
        
        • 
          
        • Developing and maintaining large-scale, consumer-facing backend platforms/services.
          
        • Experience with cloud/SaaS and big data.
          
        • Understanding challenges of highly scalable and available web applications.
          
        • Familiarity with open-source technologies.
          
        • Experience with modern backend Java frameworks.
