Job Summary The Physician Assistant provides healthcare under the supervision and direction of the Physician. Examine, diagnose, and treat patients. Interpret X-rays, blood tests, and record patient progress. May supervise technicians and assistants. Responsibilities Carries out a review of patients' medical history. Performs physical examination on all patients relevant to the presenting complaint or symptom, or a complete physical exam if indicated. Orders diagnostic tests, including blood tests and x-rays, and interprets the results under the direct supervision of a physician. Diagnose conditions within scope of practice of practitioner, or generate a differential diagnosis prior to reviewing case with preceptor or referring patient for specialty care or ordering advanced diagnostics. Provides immunization in accordance with National immunization guidelines. Provides counseling and education to patients and their families. Prescribes needed medicines to patients. Maintains meticulous records of history, physical exam, differential diagnosis, and treatment plan under direct supervision of a physician. Seek specialty consultation as appropriate after completing appropriate work up, reviewing test results, and generating a differential diagnosis. Discuss unusual or unclear symptoms or results with supervising physician in a timely manner. Perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures within his/her level of training and expertise, and as outlined on the practice agreement and written protocol with the supervising physician. Prescribe medications as appropriate. Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate clinic hours. Participate in After-hours Call Program. Educational/License Requirements Possession of a Bachelor's degree, together with a certificate from completing an American Medical Association approved physician assistant program Possession of a license to practice as physician assistant from the state where practice is to be done May possess a National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) issued certificate Possession of state and federal Controlled Substance Registration Qualifications and Experience Some clinical experience in an area of specialty. Ability to provide expert clinical judgment and function independently. Possession of exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that enable effective collaboration with physicians, staff, community health workers, patients and their families. Ability to work with little or no supervision, and to take initiative in handling the responsibilities of the post. Ability to understand complex medical information and clearly communicate it to patients and their families, medical staff, and external customers, in written and spoken format. Possession of conflict resolution and problem solving skills to effectively manage conflict in work environment. Ability to keep all sensitive and confidential information to self and out of reach to unauthorized persons. Reliable transportation for the performance of regular job duties. Detailed-oriented, accurate, thorough and takes extreme pride in work.--- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.--- Strong organizational skills.--- Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations or law.--- Intermediate to advanced level skills with MS Word, MS Excel and experience and familiarity with other Microsoft programs. Must have the ability to quickly learn and use new software tools. Ability to solve mid-level problems with minimal supervision. Ability to multi-task, exercise excellent time management, and meet multiple deadlines. Ability to provide and receive constructive job and/or industry related feedback. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately share information on a need to know basis. Ability to exercise sound discretion and strict maintenance of confidentiality of all confidential and sensitive communications and information. Ability to consistently deliver excellent customer service. Excellent attention to detail and ability to document information accurately. Ability to effectively and positively work in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment and achieve objectives. Demonstrate commitment to the organization's mission. Must have mid-level skills using e-mail applications. Self-motivated with strong organizational, multi-tasking, planning, and follow up skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to present self in a professional manner and represent the Company image.
