The Electrophysiology (EP) Registered Nurse has primary accountability for patient outcomes. The incumbent works with the Cardiac Cath Lab Nursing Director, the EP Medical Director, and the Lead EP Technical Specialist in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of EP services at Sutter Medical Center-Sacramento. This position leads the patient care team, delegates, supervises, and participates in direct patient care during invasive EP diagnostic and interventional procedures, and pre-and post procedure patient education. The incumbent functions within the full scope of licensure and provides guidance, and direction regarding the practice and performance of non-licensed personnel. The incumbent maintains high departmental standards ensuring the delivery of quality patient care, effective utilization of resources and supplies, and facilitating patient flow through the department. Supports clinical research in the EP Lab including maintaining FDA compliance with investigational and/or research devices. Assists with staffing coordination to assure smooth, consistent delivery of EP services. The incumbent assists the Lead EP Technical Specialist with the data system for the EP Lab providing information for clinical and cost reports, and coordinates QA/QI processes.
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required. BSN preferred. California RN licensure is required.
Experience: Recent Critical Care experience is required. Experience in an EP Lab is preferred. Experience in a general Cath Lab is also preferred as well as experience with pediatric and adolescent EP patients. Training and demonstrated background in electrophysiology procedures, inventory management, data management and various computer software programs is preferred. Demonstrated background in clinical research is desireable.
Knowledge: A broad-based knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology, disease processes, IV and oral cardiac medications, and current treatment modalities for the cardiolvascular system is required. Working knowledge of electrophysiology is preferred, including diagnostic and interventional EP procedures. Clinical research experience in EP, or a general Cath Lab is desireable. Demonstrated proficiency in recognition and interpretation of ECG's, and dysrrhythmia management and emergency procedures, and demonstrated resoucefulness in problem-solving is required. Knowledge of principles of radiation safety is required.
Special Skills: Valid Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required. North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE) certification is required, or may be obtained within 24 months of hire. Completion of hospital orientation to include basic math skills, basic computer skills, knowledge of community resources, legal policies relating to patient decisions and outcomes, knowledge of the performance standards of other nursing team members, and demonstrated skills in delegation, leadership, and team management concepts. Demonstrated IV therapy skills. Completion of department specific orientation.
