Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/11/2025 - Duration: 14 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 12-bed ICU night shift position, requiring a current CA RN license and advanced certifications. Responsibilities - Position is in the Intensive Care Unit of an acute care hospital - Medical/surgical ICU with common diagnoses including non-STEMIs, CVA, MOF, sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-op complications - Unit includes 12 beds with patient ratios of 1:1–2; 1:1 assignments are infrequent - Telemetry and ventilator management required - Bedside shift report standard practice - Utilizes Cerner EMR - 12-hour night shifts with schedule self-selected by staff, subject to managerial approval - At least 4 weekend night shifts required within a 4-week period - Floating may occur to other Sacramento-area facilities; mid-shift floats are rare but possible - Team includes charge nurse (no patient load, provides break relief), hospitalists or intensivists in-house 24/7, and no nurse aides - RT and pharmacy support available 24/7 - Required to participate in rotating holiday coverage with core staff - Orientation includes 1–2 days on the unit with a preceptor - Must wear navy scrubs; undershirts must be navy, white, or black, and scrub jackets (if worn) must be navy - Multidisciplinary rounds occur during day shift - Travelers are first to float if needed - Must be able to pass a sterile technique test on first day of orientation - Must participate in at least two major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); specific holiday assignments are not guaranteed - No prior direct employment (full time, part time, or PRN) with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year - First-time travelers are considered for this assignment Requirements - Current CA RN license required at time of consideration, pending licenses are not accepted - Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience - Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (copies must be current and active at consideration) - Must be skilled in reading and interpreting EKG strips - Must be comfortable with comfort care cases and common ICU bedside procedures (e.g., TEEs and bronchs) - Completion of Relias or UNA basic Dysrhythmia exam (pass/fail, up to 2 attempts) prior to acceptance; exam within 12 months accepted - Two recent supervisory or peer references required: one from within 12 months and one from within 3 years - Copy of valid driver’s license required for consideration Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-630222.
