Job Description:
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor
and Delivery Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per

Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced Fetal Monitoring
Must-Have: Candidates must have strong IV skills. Candidates must
be comfortable using evidence-based algorithms. Must be able to
circulate c-sections. Bilingual candidates are preferred.
Description: The unit averages 200-240 births per month. There are
9 beds and 7 triage beds available. The charge nurse will be
present each shift. Nurse aides will be available as OB techs.
Weekend requirement is 3 shifts every 4 weeks. Holiday shifts may
vary. Scrub color will be provided. There will be no telemetry or
ventilators on the unit. Labor hospitalists will be in-house 24/7.
Anesthesia will be on call 24/7 but not in-house. Both pharmacy and
respiratory therapy services will be available 24/7. Call is not
required, but there will be opportunities. Shifts begin at 7 AM and
7 PM; nurses must obtain report and be ready to work promptly.
Floating to postpartum will be expected. Floor-specific orientation
will consist of 3 shifts on the unit. The patient population is
diverse with a high Hispanic demographic. There is a satellite NICU
physically located in the hospital, but it operates independently.
Nurses will be expected to adhere to baby-friendly practices and
golden hour rules. Hourly rounding and bedside reporting will be
required. Documentation must be completed accurately. No
circumcisions are performed in this setting. A baby nurse will
assist with infant care. Experienced nurses should be willing to
teach and educate newer nurses. Common patients may include
antepartum patients and those on magnesium. It is essential to meet
with the perinatal safety officer regarding safety protocols.
