OVERVIEW :
The Environment Health and Safety Specialist (EHSS) promotes a
positive safety culture while complying with company safety
standards and maintaining a safe work environment. This includes
conducting trainings and coaching associates on observed work
habits, and recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures to
Management.
The EHSS will assist the Plant Manager and Safety Manager to
inspect and evaluate the environment, equipment and processes in
work areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations
and industry standards. Their chief goal is to protect the
employees, customers and the environment. Supports Management's
efforts to ensure compliance with all corporate Safety Program
expectations and applicable federal & state laws.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead managers and team leads on safety initiatives and compliance
to meet or exceed Health and Safety rules and policies of the
company.
Observe and document individuals' typical behaviors and procedures
to determine if these practices are safe for the individual and for
the company as a whole.
Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and new equipment
introductions.
Support the Quality Management System (QMS)
Conduct on-going training regarding safety for all employees in the
plant.
Ensure that new employees receive their timely safety
orientation(s) and introduction regarding their training in their
specific area in the company.
Identify and apply safety regulations.
Review safety information throughout the plant to ensure accuracy
and compliance with new rules and regulations.
Conduct investigations of accidents and incidents and report the
findings to the management on root cause. Make suggestions on
prevention measures and any other process improvement
observations.
Schedule retraining session(s) for the employees who were involved
in an incident so that proper safety procedures can be
adjusted.
Administer environmental compliance activities related to air
permitting, storm water management, EMD compliance, Spill Response,
Etc. Including but not limited to: tracking, reporting, scheduling,
and sampling as necessary.
Review and analyze data to determine the next opportunity to
pro-actively improve EHSS performance.
Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to
management and corporate based reporting systems.
Co-Lead the Emergency Response Team, as the team Captain, and
schedule and conduct necessary procedure revisions, training or
meetings to ensure effective response to potential health and
safety emergencies.
Maintain the Safety Data Sheets (SDS), update, and train as
needed.
Drive continuous improvements and quality standards in keeping with
QMS Standards.
All other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The EHSS spends most of their time either in an office environment
or at a manufacturing facility but may also spend time visiting
customer sites. The office is an open and collaborative space where
work is performed both independently and with the team. When in a
manufacturing facility, work is performed in a more traditional
manufacturing environment, with higher noise levels and frequent
movement of people and equipment. The customer sites vary and may
be in fairly remote rural locations, with possible extreme weather
conditions.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports directly to the Environmental Health & Safety
Manager.
CAREER ADVANCEMENT:
Career advancement at Construction Innovations is possible with all
positions, but is not guaranteed. Advancement could be within the
current department or to other departments within the company.
LOCATION:
Construction Innovations facilities and offices are located in
Sacramento, CA and Mather, CA.
COMPENSATION:
Construction Innovations pays hourly/salary rates commensurate with
each employee's knowledge, experience and skill level.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
3+ years' experience in an Industrial /Manufacturing setting in a
full-time safety role
OSHA 30 General industry required, OSHA 500 & 5119 preferred,
Knowledge of 29 CFR and Title 8 regulations as applied to
manufacturing.
First Aid, CPR & AED certifications, must be willing to lead in an
emergency event.
Experience with blasting booth and painting operations, in depth
knowledge of respiratory protection
Forklift trainer certification (prior lift experience is
required)
Previous Electrical or Solar installation experience preferred.
LEAN concepts with emphasis on 7S
Self-driven, willing to work alone or as part of a team on assigned
tasks and initiatives.
Ability to work split shifts, overtime and weekends as needed.
Demonstrated computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft
applications: Word, Excel, Power Point.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
Working knowledge of California State Air Permits, SPCC and Storm
Water Pollution Prevention Programs, and Waste Management.
Strong attention to detail.
Working knowledge of rules, regulations, and requirements that help
protect the worker's health and safety.
Working knowledge of injury prevention, compliance, and risk
reduction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and
arms at waist level and below the waist; and work in limited
space.
Regularly required to talk in order to communicate detailed and
accurate information.
Regularly required to hear with or without correction in order to
receive and interpret detailed information and instructions.
Regularly required to sit for long and short periods at a time at a
desk.
Regularly required to walk for long and short distances in order to
accomplish job tasks.
Regularly required to reach: ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s)
including reaching in front of body, at shoulder level.
Ability to see with or without correction. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance
vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and
ability to adjust focus
