Health Education Specialist Location 5730 Packard Avenue, Suite 100 Marysville, 95901 Description Yuba County is looking for motivated individuals with a heart for Public Health! We are currently recruiting for the position of Health Education Specialist. Under close supervision this role will provide paraprofessional public health outreach, educational and related services for community members; provide technical support to the program(s) assigned and perform related work as assigned. In addition they will provide programmatic, client outreach, education and basic counseling in specified health service areas, such as maternal and child care and disability prevention, substance abuse and tobacco control. Incumbents may also perform similar support work in areas of public health under the direction of a health professional. About Yuba County and Health & Human Services: Yuba County is situated in the Northern Sacramento Valley, approximately 40 miles north of the State Capitol in Sacramento and two hours away from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. The Health & Human Services Department administers Public Health, Human Services and Veterans programs to meet the needs of Yuba County citizens. There are a number of major Divisions within the Department including: Child & Adult Protective Services; Public Assistance; Employment Services; Housing and Integrated Services; Public Health; Veterans and Finance and Administration. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has knowledge and understanding of the Public Health field and a passion for the community. They have skill in planning and implementing educational components of public health programs which includes; researching, developing and preparing effective educational and informational materials. Additionally, they have the organizational and technical skills to perform complex grant work. A successful incumbent is an excellent communicator and has the ability to listen carefully to what other people are saying, engage with their audience and be able to develop a rapport with community members and stakeholders. Required Qualifications: Minimum: Graduation from a four year accredited college or university with major course work in a health or social science, health education, psychology, or a field related to the work, and some experience providing educational and/or technical services to the community at large. Preferred: In addition to the minimum, a Master's degree from an accredited institution with major course work in a health or social science, health education, psychology or a field related to the work; certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist and/or additional years of experience providing educational and/or technical services. Special Requirements: DMV printout prior to hire. Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3. May be required to attend meetings / events outside of normal working hours. Benefits MERIT INCREASE: Typically 5% each year for the first 7 years RETIREMENT: Miscellaneous Classic: 2% @ 55 Miscellaneous New: 2% @ 62 (Misc. See Pension Reform Link on Human Resources web page for additional information. Yuba County does not participate in Social Security.) VACATION: 12 days for first 5 yrs with incremental increases every 5 yrs thereafter, up to 20 yrs HOLIDAYS: An average of 14 paid holidays per year, including 2 floating holidays SICK LEAVE: Accrued every payroll period, up to 12 days per year HEALTH: The County pays 90% of the Basic Plan premium for employee only or 70% for employee and eligible dependent(s). Health Waiver Opt-out of $250/monthly available with proof of other employer sponsored health care coverage. DENTAL/VISION: County pays 100% of the Basic Plan Premiums for employee only and 80% for dependent(s). LIFE INSURANCE: County provides $50,000 in life insurance coverage. Employees may purchase additional coverage for themselves and dependents. SOCIAL SECURITY: Yuba County does not participate in the Social Security Program SHORT TERM DISABILITY (STD) INSURANCE: SDI provides benefits to employees who are unable to work due to non-work-related illness or injury. The current SDI withholding rate is 1.0% with a maximum of $1,229.09 on wages up to $122,909(per calendar year) for 2020. This % is deducted on gross wages and can change annually in accordance with law. Persons covered by SDI are also automatically covered by Paid Family Leave (PFL). MEDICARE: Yuba County does participate in the Medicare Program. Current EE & ER share is 1.45% DEFERRED COMP: Voluntary Deferred Compensation plan(s) are available EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: County paid confidential counseling program for up to 5 visits per incident per eligible family member.
