The Indian Health Service continues to work closely with our tribal partners to coordinate a comprehensive public health response to COVID-19. Read the latest info . Summary: Tuolumne Me-Wuk Indian Health Center is a non-profit primary care health center, owned and operated by the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians. We are a tribally-owned Indian Health Services clinic. Our patient population is made up of approximately 25 Native Americans/Alaskan Natives and 75 non-native patients. Our initial site houses an 11,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Tuolumne it has 8 exam rooms and 2 procedure rooms, in-house lab, in-house pharmacy, and Behavioral Health Department. Our Behavioral Health Department consists of a psychiatrist, psychologist, and substance abuse counselors. We also operate an additional medical clinic and a dental clinic in Sonora, California. This individual provides adult and pediatric psychiatric evaluations and treatment to the Indian and Non-Indian population within the service area of the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Indian Health Center. The Psychiatrist must be able to communicate well and be able to establish rapport with patients and their families. He/she must be sensitive to the needs of the Indian community: its cultures, traditions, behavior patterns, and background. He/she must be familiar with the aims and objectives of the health center and express a genuine enthusiasm for its success. Adherence to protocols will be in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Duties: 1. Provide comprehensive behavioral health care to all age groups, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management. Prescribes appropriate medications, diagnostic testing and other necessary procedures. 2. Maintain good rapport with Indian community and stay abreast of community needs. 3. Keep current with new techniques relating to all aspects of the behavioral health field and related areas of clinical operations maintain appropriate certifications and continually updates professional knowledge. 4. Collaborates with multidisciplinary treatment team regarding patient plans and progress. 5. Reviews and documents progress of all patients daily. 6. Consults with and educates patients, family members, and other medical providers concerning treatment and recovery plans consults with medical providers on plan variation. 7. Completes required medical forms and records in a legible, clear, concise and timely manner. 8. Follows documentation requirements in accordance with billing, regulatory, certification and accrediting agency guidelines. 9. Promotes continuous quality improvement for both patient care and service. 10. Maintains professional licensure requirements. 11. Works collaboratively with other providers and peers working in the community. 12. Be familiar with the aims and objectives of the Health Center and express a genuine enthusiasm for its success. 13. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position. 14. The ability to appropriately and professionally interact with and to get along well with others is an essential function of this position. 15. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Knowledge of: 1. Principles and methods of psychiatry and general medicine. 2. Preventive and therapeutic psychiatric care. 3. Psychosocial problems including application of psychiatric social work, clinical psychology, physical therapy, various rehabilitation therapies, and other ancillary medical services. 4. Principles and techniques of psychiatric research. 5. General adult and pediatric psychiatric outpatient care. 6. Care of patients with acute or chronic behavioral disorders and multiple problems. Ability to: 1. Develop and implement appropriate treatment and recovery plan for patients. 2. Communicate effectively orally and in writing and the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Possess sufficient written and verbal communication skills to be able to interact with co-workers, employees, patients, medical professionals, vendors, and agencies in a professional manner. In order to develop rapport and enhance business relationships. 3. Effectively relate to Tribal members, gaining their trust and confidence. 4. Prepare concise and accurate reports and charts regarding patient care and treatment, working in the Electronic Health Records System. 5. Monitor and assess the medications and treatment prescribed for patient care. Additional Qualifications/Abilities: 1. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy and completion of a residency program in an institution approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Applicants holding a certificate of psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or possessing a written statement from the Secretary of the Board indicating eligibility for examination are preferred. 2. One year of experience in a clinical setting, which may include residency. 3. Must possess a valid physicians and surgeons license issued by the California Medical Board and DEA permit/certification. 4. Must have the ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner and display individual initiative. Must be willing and have the ability to accept supervision and to follow directions. 5. Experience with and the ability to operate Microsoft Office Software is required. Experience working with RPMS computer system is preferred. Must possess skill in using computers and other office equipment in gathering and summarizing information preparing reports and in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing complicated and continuing assignments. Must have the ability to correctly enter narratives and medical information into RRMS and the Electronic Health Records system. 6. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact. Must have a general knowledge of and the ability to maintain HIPAA privacy requirements. Must sign a confidentiality statement. 7. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. 8. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
