Job Description:

DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL III Final Filing Date: 4/16/2021 Application Methods: Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) By Mail Drop-off The Regulations attorney will advise the Executive Office, Legal Division, California Justice Information Services Division, and Division of Law Enforcement on the development and promulgation of regulations, which will require direct interaction with the Department of Finance and the Office of Administrative Law. This will include advice related to the implementation and operation of a wide variety of programs within the Department of Justice including: maintenance of criminal history records; background checks related to firearm and ammunition purchases; California's prescription drug monitoring program; security standards for electronic recording delivery systems; data broker registration; shared gang databases; charitable trusts; tobacco grant program; gambling control enforcement; pawnbroker and secondhand dealer registration; and information sharing with researchers and other law enforcement agencies. Additional opportunities may include other work for the Government Law Section as needed. The Government Law Section provides legal advice and representation to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Controller, Treasurer, Secretary of State, Department of Finance, and other officials, state agencies, and departments on a wide range of legal issues-including, but not limited to, constitutional and statutory law, governmental operations, elections, the state budget, public finance, state mandates, criminal information, procurement, firearms, redevelopment wind-down, financial conflicts of interests, and ethics. Government Law Section attorneys also prepare titles and summaries for ballot measures and analyze proposed state legislation.
