general supervision perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled
work in the maintenance of District buildings, facilities and
associated equipment; perform heating, air conditioning,
ventilation, refrigeration, hydronic, plumbing, appliance,
electrical and carpentry repairs; assist the Facilities Manager in
management of construction projects which require direction and
coordination of contract personnel; perform other duties as
required. Examples Of Essential Duties: This job description is
intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope
of the position; it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of

associated with the position. Regular and reliable attendance is a
requirement of the job. Oversee the maintenance of District
facilities, manage and coordinate construction projects, and
communicate both orally and in writing with staff and Division
Manager. Determine the nature of the problem when there are
mechanical, plumbing, electrical or related systems not functioning
properly; perform repairs if time, equipment and supplies permit;
for complex and major challenges, will refer to the Facilities
Manager. Test mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and appliance
components for failure; diagnose cause of failure, replace worn
parts, and otherwise restore equipment to operating condition. Make
repairs to existing plumbing systems; test and locate trouble and
replace defective parts of plumbing systems such as valves,
pipelines, faucets and fixtures; clean out obstructions in pipe
systems. Make repairs and adjustments to heating, ventilating, air
conditioning, refrigeration systems and controls; clean and oil
equipment and check belts; determine trouble with equipment not
functioning properly and repair or replace defective or worn parts
such as bearings, seals, or float controls and making minor and
major repairs. Perform carpentry duties, lay out, cuts, fit and
join building materials to construct, maintain or alter facilities
and structures. Make repairs/adjustments and/or installations of
doors, lock sets, lockers and cabinets. Maintain records of work
performed and parts and materials used. Advise Facilities Manager
of system failures or loss of effectiveness and make
recommendations for corrective action. Other related duties as
assigned by supervisor. Typical Qualifications: Offers of
employment are contingent upon successful completion of a
background check and a physical to include a drug screen. The
education or experience requirements may be modified or waived at
the sole discretion of the Fire Chief. At least one of the
education or experience requirements must be met; both requirements
cannot be modified or waived. The Sacramento Metro Fire District
Board of Directors shall be notified of any such modifications or
waivers. Age Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Education
and Experience Education must be obtained through a post-secondary
institution currently accredited by any accreditation body
recognized by either the Counsel for Higher Education Accreditation
(CHEA) or the United States Department of Education. Required:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
Minimum of twelve (12) units of college credit. Considerable crafts
related education and experience equivalent to a journey level
construction trades person that would demonstrate possession of the
knowledge and abilities listed in the minimum qualifications. Four
(4) years of journey-level experience which demonstrates possession
of the required knowledge and abilities as listed below. Desirable:
Bilingual ability. Construction Trade License or Certificates.
