Job Description:
Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated
transportation of people and goods by rail - including rolling
stock, rail automation, rail electrification, and service. We craft
and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock,
including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and
streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed
trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide
traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as
signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and
transit systems.
Siemens is looking for a highly analytical, performance-driven
professional with career emphasis in product safety. The System
Engineer is responsible for the fire safety engineering and
regulatory compliance of Siemens light-rail and heavy rail coaches
and locomotives for North American customers. The position is based
in Sacramento, CA collaborating with the Systems Engineering
Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Proficient communicator (verbal/written skills)- must be
capable of optimally strengthening relationships with fellow staff
and superiors in addition to building consensus, as well as
eliciting clear decisions from clients and all levels of
customers.
- Technical know-how in engineering operations and knowledge of
industry standards, concepts, best practices, and safety
standards.
- Fire and regulatory safety standards include but not limited to
49CFR238, APTA, PRIIA, ASTM E162/662/1354/C1166, EN45545, NFPA130,
BSS7239/SMP 800C, etc.
- A highly organized individual with excellent customer service
(verbal) skills, strong social skills, problem-solving and pressure
management skills with strong attention to detail and
follow-through while maintaining objective focus.
- The engineer shall be proficient in problem-solving, research,
and time-management abilities including identifying the root cause
of issues and implementing creative, targeted solutions.
- Team-focused with effective communication and presentation
skills; must have the ability to coordinate with management,
engineers, and vendors to achieve goals.
- Analysis and evaluation capabilities with a consistent track
record of accuracy and precision. Attention to small details and
excellent critical thinking, decision making, time management
(schedule consistency), and leadership skills.
- Proven expertise in collaborating with multi-functional,
multi-disciplinary teams across multiple locations to implement
projects and accomplish required tasks efficiently and
optimally.
Typical Job-Related Activities but not limited to:
- Build sophisticated fire safety analysis (FSA) reports for each
project based on project design.
- Build complete fire, smoke, toxicity (FST) matrix reports for
each project based on project design.
- Presentations to rail customers or internal team members during
several phases of the vehicle design, i.e. conceptual design
review, pre-design review and final design review.
- Guide vendors, systems engineers in relation to fire safety and
its requirements.
- Write detailed design reviews for rail customers (CDRLs) as
applicable.
- Apply the broad knowledge of combustible materials to make
accurate material selection for use on rail vehicles.
- Setup samples for laboratory testing.
- Develop detailed field modification instructions (FMI) or
Repair Procedures (RP) to retrofit rail vehicles as related to fire
safety and material selection for use on rail vehicles.
- Provide support to all internal working groups (production,
quality, project management, procurement, and
test/commissioning.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Preferred: In rail industry, materials, or engineering
background
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or
related field or 2+ years of meaningful experience.
- Strong communication and presentation skills in the English
language
- Ability to clearly and concisely express technical
information
- Strong technical writing skills
- Presentation and meeting facilitation skills
- Able to complete tasks with minimal information given
- Hands-on application and testing materials
- SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, PPT, Creo View
- Some travel may be required

salary range in Sacramento, CA, is $95,400 - $128,800 The salary
may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's
experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
