Job Description:
JOB The City of Sacramento requires all newly appointed

CANDIDATE STATEMENTThe ideal candidate will have completed a
recognized apprenticeship program, with 4 years of experience
working at the journey level in an industrial environment. The
ideal candidate will also have received training and experience
related to safely working with up to medium voltage electrical
systems. This experience could include power transformers, vacuum
and air frame circuit breakers, switchgear, motors, variable speed
drives, and distribution cabling. -DEFINITIONThis is skilled
journey-level work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of
electrical/electronic systems and equipment in various municipal
buildings, parks, stations, plants, street lighting and fire alarm
systems. The work involves the performance of skilled tasks in
accordance with standard trade practices in the installation,
alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical/electronic
systems, and equipment. Assignments are made in the form of written
or oral instructions and may be accompanied by sketches and/or blue
prints. Work is ordinarily performed independently and subject to
inspection in process or upon completion. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
EXAMPLES OF DUTIESInstalls conduits, wire, pull boxes,
switchboards, and switches required in making additions,
extensions, or alterations in electrical, communication and data
systems. -Repairs and maintains building interior and exterior
lighting, power, heating, fire alarm, and street lighting systems.
-Repairs and/or replaces defective parts in motors, generators,
pumps, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contactors,
switches, uninterruptible power supplies, and other fixtures and
appliances. -Tests, locates, and repairs trouble in electrical
circuits and equipment including medium voltage distribution
systems. -Repairs and replaces damaged electroliers, fire alarm
boxes, and police telephone boxes; replaces defective underground
cables on street lighting system. -Performs limited
troubleshooting, repair, and modifications to PLC hardware and
software.Reviews project documents prior to construction and
inspects the work of electrical contractors to ensure conformance
with plans and specifications. -Other related duties may also be
performed; not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each
individual holding this classification. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:The standard practices, materials, tools, and
equipment of the electrical trade. -Occupational hazards and safety
precautions of the trade. -Local and national electrical codes.
-The installation, operation and maintenance of
electrical/electronic equipment, apparatus, and instruments.Ability
to:Understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read
and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams. -Read and write
the English language at a level necessary for efficient job
performance.Skill in:Locating and adjusting defects in electrical
systems and equipment. -The use and care of tools and equipment of
the electrical trade.Experience and Education:Any combination
equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide
the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.A typical
way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be experience as a
journey-level Electrician. Journey level is completion of a
recognized apprenticeship and 8,000 hours in the field.PROOF OF
EDUCATION -Should education be used to qualify for this position,
then proof of education such as, but not limited to,
university/college transcripts and degrees should be submitted with
your application and will be required at the time of appointment.

with a college degree obtained outside the United States must have
education records evaluated by a credentials evaluation service.
-Evaluation of education records will be due at time of
appointment.SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONSDriver License:Possession of a
valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment.
Loss of the Class C License is cause for discipline. Individuals
who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be
reviewed on a case-by-case basis.Residency Requirement:Employees in
this classification must reside within thirty-five (35) air miles
from the freeway interchange at W-X Streets, 29th-30th Streets
within one year following appointment.PROBATIONARY PERIOD:Employees
must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory
performance level prior to gaining permanent status. SUPPLEMENTAL

Test: (Weighted 100%) - Qualified candidates will be notified by
email of the test date, time, and location approximately one to two
weeks prior to the test. The performance test will be job related
and may include, but not limited to, the knowledge and abilities as
outlined above.TEST EXEMPTION - If you have previously taken the
Electrician exam within the past year of the final filing date of
this posting, -you may be considered exempt from taking the
Electrician Exam. -The City of Sacramento's Human Resources
Department will verify applicant's eligibility at the time of the
final filing deadline of this job posting. -5. -Eligibility -
Candidates who pass the performance test will be placed on an
eligible list. The hiring department may contact those on the
eligible list for an interview at any time during the life of the
one-year list. Candidate's eligibility expires year from the date
of notification of a passing score for the Electrician
-examination. Candidates can take the examination at any time to
maintain eligibility. -If you are currently on an active eligible
list for the Electrician classification, it is unnecessary to
retake the examination. -The eligible list is effective one year
from the date of passing the examination for the Electrician. -If
you are hired from the eligible list you will no longer have active
status on the eligible list per Civil Service Board Rule, 5.7(i).

take and pass the exam after their hire date. - 6. -Conditional
Hire: -Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate
must complete and pass LiveScan/fingerprinting; and provide proof
of receiving a complete COVID-19 vaccination. If applicable,
candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam,
controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required
licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the
Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for
