We are looking for a Pavement Engineer to join our Sacramento office!
The Pavement Engineer will be responsible for performing assigned duties supporting construction projects for roadways, bridges, and other transportation structures. They will provide professional services in the areas of pavement materials engineering, test result analysis, professional engineering reports, and quality management as related to these services. The position requires a thorough knowledge of pavement design, materials, construction, testing, and material engineering techniques to plan and perform independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of these techniques, procedures and criteria. Included in this role are analyses of engineering design and construction documents, drawings, test results, reports, related literature, quality control reviews, and providing timely material engineering recommendations. The individual will also be responsible for the management of the quality of materials incorporated into construction contracts.

  • Working with internal and external parties to plan, develop, and execute materials engineering services
  • Performing material consultation, literature review, specification and test method review and modification where needed
  • Performing data acquisition, evaluation and analysis
  • Writing clear and concise professional engineering reports at all levels from executive summaries and proposals to detailed statistical reports with materials engineering recommendations
  • Managing budgets, approving project reports, overseeing orders and delivery of equipment, taking care of any changes a client wants to make, resolving problems and ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget
  • Meeting regularly with clients to establish and maintain open lines of communication
  • Provide clear, effective, and timely engineering recommendations to clients
  • Lead teams of engineers and technicians through all phases of technical projects
  • Develop and produce work plans, schedules, budgets, and progress reports
  • Manage milestones and ensure successful completion of deliverables
  • Ensure effective meeting facilitation and recordkeeping
  • Ensure processes & procedures are documented, understood and implemented
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and manage implementation of solutions
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
    RequirementsMinimum Requirements:
    • B.S. in Civil Engineering required
    • M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering preferred
    • CA P.E. preferred
    • 5+ Years' experience with transportation projects
    • Strong problem-solving skills, including identifying data quality issues
    • Strong organizational skills, including an ability to prioritize activities and work with limited supervision
    • Results oriented and able to complete tasks on deadline with little supervision
    • Ability to make good decisions using sound, professional judgment
      Technical Requirements:
      • Proficient using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
      • Effective written, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team involving staff, clients and outside agencies
      • Capable of developing technical writing with meticulous attention to detail
      • Experience with Caltrans practices and procedures
      • Experience working on roadway and highway related projects
      • Knowledge of materials, approved methods and equipment used in physical testing of pavement materials
      • Knowledge of mixture design, pavement evaluation, and performance tests
      • Knowledge of material testing and inspection requirements as they relate to Caltrans Standard Specifications and Construction Manual preferred
      • Knowledge of quality management systems as they relate to the physical testing of construction materials preferred
        Other miscellaneous qualities:
        • Must be available for as needed travel
        • Certifications etc. - CA P. E. preferred
