The Senior Associate Vice President is responsible for fostering, maintaining relations, and strategic advocacy with elected officials and governmental agencies/ entities and their representatives at the local, state, and federal levels of government to promote the strategic interests of the University. The Senior Associate Vice President also assists the President with the building operations and external public affairs programming of Sacramento State Downtown and implementing the University's Anchor University initiative. The Senior Associate Vice President oversees the Center for California Studies program and the Fellows. The Senior Associate Vice President provides vision and leadership in the identification, prioritization, and strategic direction of the Office of Public Affairs and Advocacy, and Anchor University efforts. The position serves as a member of the President's Cabinet and the Division of the President's Executive Leadership team. FLSA:Exempt(Not eligible for overtime)CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,250.00 - $ 20,063.00Anticipated Hiring Range:$13,167.00 - $15,000.00 per month.The salary is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. The office serves as the official voice of the University in engaging with community and government agencies at the local, state, and federal level. The Advocacy team actively shares examples of academic excellence and student success, as well as university priorities in effort to secure resources and support. For more information regarding the Office of Public Affairs and Advocacy, please visit: 1. Bachelor's degree in public policy, government, or communications-related field. 2. Experience in working with media relations, including the writing and production of newsletters, and news releases, and familiarity with e-advocacy messaging systems. 3. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the legislative and/or executive branches of government at the local, state, or federal level or similarly complex organization. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 4. Detailed knowledge and understanding of the organization and operation of the local, state, and federal government and the legislative process at the local, state, and federal levels.5. Understanding of governmental protocols, California laws, and California rulemaking.6. Understanding of public policy issues and interests, including financial and budgeting pressures and concerns, impacting public higher education in California and the nation.7. Effective leadership and analytical skills.8. Excellent strategic communication skills (written and verbal); demonstrated ability to testify before legislative and community groups.9. Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and facilitation skills.10. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.11. Strong organizational skills; ability to work successfully on multiple projects.12. Ability to work as part of a team and the capacity to perform effectively under deadline pressure.13. Understanding of effective community engagement/anchor university strategies for an institution of higher education.14. Understanding of the anchor mission of the University.15.
